review 1: Astonishing, painstaking research has gone into this book to recreate the events and dialogues leading up to the Lincoln assassination and the trial of co-conspirators that followed. So little is taught about Mary Surratt - the first woman executed by the federal government (by public hanging, no less - and all the hard work that goes into this highly readable book certainly helps those of us, who may not be students of history, put her story within our grasp.
review 2: I have not seen the movie "The Accomplice" yet, but I intend to. As a person that is fascinated with the History of the Civil War, I had not read a book that was principally dedicated to the plot to kidnap Lincoln which turned into the plot to kill him, along with the Vice President and the Secr
... moreetary of State. Mary Surratt was long-thought to have been "in the dark" regarding these plots that were nurtured along within the walls of her boarding house. However, the evidence at the time of the trial, and the overwhelming evidence that has surfaced in the last 150 years should leave no question as to her knowledge of them. In fact, it seems as if she was crucial to Booth's ability to remove himself from the area to relative safety... albeit, for a very short time...I liked the book. It made me more interested in learning about Wilkes Booth in particular. less

Very detailed historical book that reads like a James Patterson mystery/thriller.

Generally a good book, but a few careless errors are made.
