review 1: I chose this book because my friend Kyla told me it was a great book, and it was. This story takes place in present day, New York. Mia and Sophie have been friends since they were in diapers. Now their in high school and partying is a common thing in high school. Sophie is the popular one and when they decide to go to a party one night Sophie's boyfriend offers them both ecstasy. Sophie is all in for it and Mia doesn't think it can hurt anything. This would be both a external and internal conflict. They love the ecstasy to point where they do it again, and again and again. Soon enough Sophie realizes she wants more in life so she stops, but Mia loses herself, all of her friends including Sophie, even her family. The theme of this book would be; Drugs can take you on a long... more and bad journey, and can make you lose everything. Mia and Sophie would both be dynamic characters in this book because they both go through so many changes throughout this book. Mia is shy, ignorant but even through everything a strong person. ""Yeah," I said, smiling to hide my nervousness" (McCaffrey 2). ""Its the weekend," Lewis said, laughing. "Thats always an occasion to celebrate." (McCaffrey 96) Some people I know think that the weekend is always a time to party and do drugs, which isn't true. "I cut her short. Now wasn't the time for a lecture." (McCaffrey 156) Most people I know that make bad decisions usually don't ever want to listen to people that are just trying to help them. ""You okay?" Mom asked, her voice full of concern. "you look terrible."" (McCaffrey 174) If I was ever in a bad situation my mom would definitely be there for me like Mia's mom was. Overall I really enjoyed this book and I would recommend to others. Especially those who don't know what drugs can get you into.
review 2: This was really easy to read and follow because the chapters were short and the physical book is small so there aren't many words on each page. The voices of the two different narraters were powerful. I find it interesting that two girls who are so different can think they really know each other that well and are best friends. The experiences using drugs and the social struggles of being 15 and a sophomore and not new or different from any other, but as a reader who has never tried ecstasy and through reading it, the characters didn't find the experience left them feeling that great, I continued to read to learn why they kept making those choices. Plus with all of the side effects that are continuously unpleasant, why keep putting yourself in that situation? less

In ecstasy is a real eye opener to the happenings of drugs in teenagers today.

Ugh, ghastly unsubtle 'anti' drug message with no redeeming artistic features.
