Hot in the Kitchen
review 1: This is book #1 of the Hot in the Kitchen series. Lili DeLuca spends most of her time working at her family's Italian restaurant. Her dream was to go to grad school and pursue a career in photography but her mother became sick and Lili spent her savings paying medical bills and put all her time into the restaurant to help the family. Jack Kilroy is a British celebrity chef who is just recently over a very public breakup. Jack will be filming the pilot for his new TV show at Lili's family restaurant and there will be a cook off between Jack and her father. Lili's first encounter with Jack is quite hilarious and they get to know one another from there on out. They develop feelings for each other but Lili always puts others first and Jack is known for being hot-headed a... morend trying to protect what he considers his. They are caught in the middle of a hot kiss in a bar and somebody puts the video online with social media. Jack feels like he needs to protect Lili and she has to deal with old hurts from being overweight when she was younger. Things go from bad to worse when Lili's family members are caught trying to sabotage the cook off in the DeLuca's favor and Jack accuses Lili of being involved. They will both have to overcome their problems if they will be able to have a relationship of any kind.I really enjoyed this romance story from the very beginning. The first chapter had me laughing at just the very picture of how they first meet. It held my attention throughout with well developed characters that each have realistic issues to deal with. They both have family problems that get in the way. Lili's family is holding her back and making her goals feel unworthy and Jack has to deal with a younger sister who he only wants to protect. A good read and I hope to read the next book in the series which I believe is the story of Lili's sister Cara.I received a free copy of this book through GoodReads First Reads in exchange for my honest review.
review 2: Sizzling fun! Cultures and cuisines clash when the daughter of a local Italian restaurant owner allows her celebrity chef client to use their kitchen for his television show. Enter Wonder Woman. Lili DeLuca, temporarily working as the restaurant manager, can't help but fall for the sexy British phenom, but past hurts warn her away from the strong attraction. But Jack Kilroy has more to recommend him than his culinary skills and lover-boy reputation. He's determined to get under Lili's defenses. Lots of great dialogue, winning characters that don't fall into the "Italian family" cliches, and a curvy heroine who embraces who she is make this a wonderful read. less

Cute romance. A bit slow at times, but overall an enjoyable read.

Loved the characters despite the deflated-like-a-sufflé plot ;)

A very quick read. Not much depth to the book.
