The Elven Lords
review 1: It's been a while now since I've read this book, and I honestly do not remember details of the plot. I only remember that I liked it — though I don't know how much I liked it. If I read blurbs or other people's summary of the story, it's enough to jog my memory somewhat. I remember the world, though; it's the same one in book one, of course, which is an alternate history where elves have come into our world and taken over in some places. They are the titled, and in fact anyone with a bit of elven magic is considered to be among the privileged class as well. Secretly, though, the elves would never let the humans take over, so they control the magic and do away with anyone that has too much magic because of their potential to destroy the elves' control. It's actually pret... morety cool world building, and when I first came across it in book one, it made me a fan of Kathryne Kennedy. But anyway...The hero is a secret protector of the heroine, who happens to be everyone's hope for a better future. She is a daughter of one of the Elven Lords but is half human, and she has a huge potential for powerful magic, powerful enough to destroy her father's control of his land. So the humans have hidden her away and raised her among normal folk, and the hero has been assigned to protect her without seeming to.So they grow up somewhat in the same village. He sleeps around but doesn't come into contact with her at all — he takes this secret protector thing seriously, especially the secret part. He keeps an eye on her but doesn't let on and doesn't even show that he keeps an eye on her. Even though he's wildly attracted to her, he keeps a hands-off policy because he knows she's destined for greatness while he's just a protector.Meanwhile, she has very strong feelings for him and at first tried everything she could to get him to notice her. When he turned her down after she made some kind of proposition to him, she ended up hating him. She moved on and is seriously thinking about marrying one of the yokels of the village. At least ... that's what I remember of their backstory. The book, on the other hand, starts around the time that the elven lord has gotten some kind of clue where the heroine might be, and he has sent his men to the village to find her. So ... fighting arrives in the village, and young men are being drafted for the upcoming war. The hero gets the heroine out of there, and he takes it upon himself to get her where she needs to be.And this is where I forget all the details.Naturally, the hero and the heroine eventually get together, and the conflict between them is sure to be their class differences and the danger of her assassination. Much action and adventure take place, and everyone lives happily ever after. I just can't for the life of me remember how they get to the ending — just the set up.That may be a good thing, though. I like the author's writing, so this will give me a good excuse to re-read the book someday.
review 2: The reason I only gave this book 3 stars is that it had two many characters. Maybe instead the other characters should have got themselves a book. You see these new characters as couples but you have problems trying to keep them straight. Maybe if they didn't get a book have a list in front of the book explaining these new characters. I would have giving this book a 5 star rating if all the chapters weren't so confusing. less

This was very cheesy and corny. It was a quick read and not terrible, if there's nothing else.
