review 1: Alison's PR career was wrecked by, she thought, her boyfriend and colleague. After his brother's death, he left the company, bought the motel his brother always wanted to renovate and run, and begins to bring it back to life--until Alison shows up, forced by her nasty boss to bring back the wonderkind, Joe Gallahan. But each has demons that continue to interfere--his drinking problem and her gambling mother and the thugs who are demanding repayment of her most recent bills. How can they sweep away the social chaff and see each other for how they really are? Loving and in love with each other and aching to overcome those demons? Pick up STAYING AT JOE'S to find out.
review 2: I was lucky enough to win this book as a Goodreads First Read. Let me just say, I basical
... morely inhaled it! Joe and Allison were lovers and coworkers in the past. Each feels let down by the other, and each one has issues that require help to deal with. There is no typical romance hero or heroine here. This story has small town busybodies, a cute kitten, a freaking Burmese python, and lots of humor. It also has heartbreak, betrayal, evidence of crappy parenting, and good people afraid to trust for a variety of reasons. There are heartless bad guys, but there are also many characters to love. I laughed, I teared up, and I sighed. Above all, I begged for a happy ever after. I now know that there are other stories in this wonderful world, and I plan to pick those up ASAP. Kathy Altman has created a town filled with the kind of craziness and caring that I can't wait to immerse myself in again and again. I highly recommend this great story! less
