review 1: The Father was the spy, a fact he kept from his son. The son plays the horses. The father has slowly advancing Alzheimer's disease so the powers above him need to eliminate him because of fears that he will divulge crucial information. So it is a chase. But the low rating is mainly because of less than adequate development of the characters--and a bit much of too hard to believe methods of escape.
review 2: Fun premise - old spy with Alzheimer's must be contained, and his wastrel of a son gets swept up into things. Charlie's evolution from broken-down gambler to defeater of superspies is a little suspicious, but entertaining nonetheless. ... morete languor of Deighton. If you think too hard, it becomes the blockbuster daydream of a father hungry son, but if you pretend the book is a paperback, and you are at the beach, it's a fun spy adventure. less

Tried to read it, got to 100 pages or so. I found the whole thing silly and a little tedious
