review 1: I really enjoyed this book! It was fun, light, and the perfect summer read. Lots of parts seemed unrealistic or unlikely, but it didn't bother me, I loved it anyway. The characters were funny and interesting and the story kept me reading.Being from Iowa (not all that far away from Cedar Falls) it was fun seeing names of towns and businesses from around here. I can't wait to see what else this author comes up with in the future!
review 2: In her debut Good Luck Girls of Shipwreck Lane Kelly Harms introduces us to two Jeanine Browns. Also there is plenty of food! More on that shortly!Synopsis: Jeanine Brown (Janey) did not want to enter this contest for a dream house. She is a seamstress who loves to cook. The house is located in Christmas Cove Maine. T
... morehis would mean leaving her comfort zone in Cedar Rapids Iowa. Janey's aunt Midge is eighty-eight years old and her only living relative. She has dreamed of this house and will not take no for the answer. On the other side of town is another Jeanine Brown (Nean) who is dying to leave the life she currently has. So when the announcer announces that Jeanine Brown won Nean leaves instantly for Maine. Who is the true winner? What will the two Jeanines do when they meet? How does Aunt Midge figure into the equation? My Thoughts: I won a copy of this from a blog a Tasty Read. I did enjoy the novel. I was surprised how much food played a role in this story. I wonder if recipes exist on the author’s website. I don’t know that I could cook the way Janey does. I am more of a baker similar to Nean. The author uses food as a buffer for Janey to deal with her shyness. Nean uses her independence to push to people away. Aunt Midge holds it all together for all the characters in the novel. I did find it funny at times. I believe that everyone will enjoy this novel. I look forward to reading the next one. less
