review 1: I really liked this book, quite a few of the stories ('Steam Girl'; 'The Last Ride of The Glory Girls'; 'Clockwork Fagin'; 'Seven Days Beset by Demons' and 'Everything Amiable and Obliging') were completely amazing and steampunk-y giving me a better idea of this subgenre than just Cassandra Clare's 'Infernal Devices' series (love that series :D ) but some stories just didn't seem steampunk...('Gethsemane'; 'The Summer People', 'Nowhere Fast' and 'The Oracle Engine'). All that aside though teh stories in this book were interesting and fun and I loved the majority of them. Second favourite short story collection (Number onw is still 'City' by James Roy)
review 2: This was one of my best "experiments!" I picked up this book because it was on sale in the Kindle sto... morere, and being an avid gamer and self-proclaimed nerd, I was excited to delve into the new world of Steampunk. I had become familiar with this theme mostly through video games, and I wanted to see what the literary world had to offer; however, having been disappointed in many compilations of short stories, I wasn't expecting anything groundbreaking. But oh, how pleasantly surprised I was! There, of course, were a few stories that didn't fully capture my heart or my attention, but most of them were beautifully written with characters so powerful and realistic, I felt myself rooting them from page one, and these being characters I never would have even imagined by myself! Short story, short... this is a compilation of stories that won't only keep you turning the pages, but will teach you the right way to write. I'm very impressed, and highly recommend it. less
