review 1: This is a spell binding story of the historical basis for the formation of christianity written by a well educated author fluent in 7 languages and well researched in the hidden historical facts of the writings of Homer and Virgil's Aeneid. Much of the story centers around the epic poem and its relation to history. also the rewriting of history to substantiate the cult of Augustus. It is very interesting to read explanations and current research on the ancient writings and also the history of the ancients. Having read several books along this line of thinking,it is a way to become more familiar with customs and traditions learned from history and religion taken for granted or just accepted without any real reason behind the celebrations of the religious orders. It question... mores organized religion and calls it into accountability for its teachings. This is a good thing. Many of the most ancient myths and legends tell stories very similar to those in the biblical accounts. These stories all in one way or another make for cohesiveness and the ever presence of a creator.
review 2: I was not impressed at all with this book. The author is obviously very knowledgeable of history, however, he is very one sided on his opinions and his research only covers his idea fo the novel. Which is why I guess he wrote it in the first place, but it doesn't move me or make me think that there was some big conspiracy with how the Christian Religion started. I think the book was the author's way of putting his research out there in a different form then just writing it in a scholarly journal. I personally think his research is flawed and not entirely accurate as he tries to draw conclusions from Icons and commonly used words of the time period to make his arguments. And the arguments are not made on facts. less
