review 1: Started out really enjoyomg this book but then didn't care for it....the story seemed to drag and was hard to follow with some of the characters moving through time. It was a good premise but moved too slowly, written with Irish accents, and was confusing keep the characters straight. I am sorry that I recommeneded this book at the outset (only 50 pgaes in). I ended up giving up on it about 50 pages from the end.....something I usually don't do. I was just to the point that I didn't care. I think it was hard for me to connect to any of the characters which is something I enjoy when reading a book.
review 2: Darn. The Irish brogue can be a mouthful to read but what a lovely story encompassing all the major events of Northern Ireland (of which I know nothing much
... more of). Two strands are interwoven in the book, mirroring the journey taken by Michael as well as his nephew, Sean as they return to Ireland to find humanity, respectively in 1972 and 1986. It can get a tad confusing as one flips between the chapters of Sean with that of Michael as the story progresses but it is all resolved in the end. less

A nice look at life in Ireland during many of the conflicts, while weaving in some celtic mysticism.
