review 1: Before smartphones, apps, and tablets, there was 8-bit gaming. This wonderfully written comedy recounts life as a child of the 80s like nothing I have read before or since. Don't worry if you are not a child of the 80's. If you can remember wanting something so bad, a defining toy or product from your youth, than you too will enjoy reading this book. This is a very funny book, and it will make you laugh out loud.
review 2: I received this book as an ARC from the publisher through NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review. II truly wanted to love this book or at least enjoy it. One, there is very little plot or other elements that make a good story. It seems the book mainly was written for nostalgia's sake. If you are a fan of the movie, A Christmas Story... more, this could be enjoyable, but I for one have not ever enjoted that movie and I as well as many other reviewers find a parallel between this and A Christmas Story, a la 1980's. Some of the 80s references brought back memories, but as a whole I did not enjoy the story and feel that I could have chosen a much better book to read during those 6 days. less
