review 1: Caleb and Camilla Fang are successful performance artists receiving awards for their art of chaos and pandemonium and parents of two young children. Both children take part in many of their performances. To me it felt as if they were actually being abused, since their parents seem to care nothing about their children except as part of their "art." The children grow up and when their careers fall apart or they get blasted in the face with a "potato gun" (don't ask--you have to read the book) and need to recuperate at home, we are supposed to find out whether they are more important to their parents than their art. Very chaotic, very weird. I didn't enjoy it although Kevin Wilson writes well.
review 2: This was lent to me by Liz C. during bedrest. It looked pr
... moreetty light and easy to read. But meh. The writing was fine and kept me going, but not one of the characters felt at all real and therefore I couldn't get much out of the book. I have a really hard time relating to characters who are impulsive and self-destructive (like the main character on Weeds) so this might have something to do with it. But I still don't get all the many raves on the cover of the book. less

These parents were horrifying! I hurt for the children, and they were fictional!

Tragically funny. Incredible story. Never met a more dysfunctional family.

Quirky, at times annoying but ultimately fun.
