review 1: Hated Phillip (a lot). Really liked the guide dogs and some of Phillip's family. Loved the brothers, Alan and Tommy. Liked Patrick with Tommy but was a little creeped out the Patrick had dipped his wick in the Alan pool before going for a dip in the Tommy lagoon. LOL Really liked the story between Michael and Alan and not sure why the hell Michael ever got together with Phillip. Hated that Jane kept forgiving her POS faithless husband. Oh and totally detested the sleazeball Robby. YUCK! He and Phillip were a match made in Hell.
review 2: 4.5 starsSo obviously there was a lot I loved about this book. First, the Guide Dogs. I'm fascinated with assistance animals, all the things they can do, how they are trained, and it was cool to have this in a novel. I love boo
... moreks with pets in general, but even more so when they're actually part of the story, which was definitely the case here. I really liked Michael building his independence back. I think in most relationships, especially long term ones, it's jarring after it ends to find out how much you relied on your partner, and obviously this was magnified for Michael, and trying to cope with it with someone else. The aspect of "how soon is too soon" intrigued me. There's the old joke about the best way to comfort a widow, yet we still expect a person to mourn for a certain amount of time. Both the person mourning and the person who desires the person who's mourning get pulled in different directions, with different thoughts and feelings, and I thought those were expressed really well. less
