review 1: Abandoned at page 258. I did pick up again after a two month hiatus, but a few pages later a new voice entered the book. I feel completely disoriented and won't bother to read the rest.The story is that of three Helsinki grown youths who have a single half-assed hit in the early 60's. One of them succeeds at everything he attempts and starts a political career. The other two drift into darkness. Unless you're a huge fan of the city of Helsinki, this isn't interesting at all. It could have been, the premise is good but the focus is off as it is more on the town than on the people in it.
review 2: Vähän enemmän kronikka kuin romaani. Jäi pintapuoliseksi mutta ei ihmekään, Älä käy yöhön yksin käsittelee sen verran pitkää ajanjaksoa, ettei kuudellasad... morealla sivullakaan pysty kattamaan kaikkia tapahtumia täydellisesti. Pidin pienestä viittauksesta Leijoihin Helsingin yllä, mutta Leijoista pidin romaanina paljon tätä enemmän. Siinä oli aitoutta, kosketuspintaa, samaistuttavia tapahtumia. Älä käy yöhön yksin oli muistelmateos Frank Lomanin silmin.Vaikka tarina ei iskenyt niin paljon kuin olisin tahtonut, on Westön kieli ja tapa kuljettaa teoksiaan upea. Helsinki elää ja säkenöi eri vuodenajoissa ja väreissä. less
