review 1: I've never read Hellsing before and not sure of what kind of appeal do Hirano's works have. I don't find Drifters to be really special, or is just not my cup of tea.Ah, maybe one thing when the man in the corridor appears. I also like the way he draws some expressions, which feel quite surreal at times.Anyhow, I can still enjoy it as an entertainment manga, legendary-heroes-making-funny-jokes.
review 2: I found this on the clearance rack at the local secondhand bookstore and picked it up. I knew going into it that it probably had a cliffhanger ending, but I was expecting something a bit less anticlimactic at its close. I'm not sure if I'd buy Vol. 2, but the story is very interesting. Dark Horse knows how to hook its manga/graphic novel readers. I recently beca... moreme addicted to their Brody's Ghost title, which I would recommend over this fantasy title... though Drifters is very ambitious and intriguing. Fans of alternate history and hard fantasy should enjoy it. less
