review 1: I just finished this five seconds ago, and I don't need any time to think about it: that was a terrible book. It just was. It was boring throughout almost the entire thing before it finally started to pick up a little towards the end. Then it had a terrible ending, too. It was a struggle to get through, and I'm so happy now that I'm done, to be able to read something else. I'm that kind if person who has to finish a book after they start it, even if I hate it, so I was just trying to speed through this, because I knew I had actually good books waiting for me when I was finally done with this thing. I just didn't like it.
review 2: NOBODY BUT US is a heartbreaking debut novel. It made me sad and angry. It made me hopeful. It made me believe that no matter how te
... morerrible things have been in your life, there will still be good things waiting for you. Will’s and Zoe’s lives are both fucked-up and I wish no one has to go through all that, but I think their own disasters are part of what brought them together. Maybe it’s a huge part, even. I believe Will recognized a kindred spirit in Zoe and it drove him to get to know her. They were both abandoned – in different ways – by the people who should be taking care of them. They were both hurt and scarred but that did not prevent them from seeing the beauty and goodness in each other. What they did was probably stupid, but it was brave. I don’t know how much of that decision to run away was driven by hormones and how much was driven by the need to be free, but I have to admire their bravery to chase the freedom they both deserve. What I liked most about it is that in spite of their issues, what Will and Zoe felt for each other was real. It was real and strong enough to make them want to save themselves and each other and do the right thing. Will clearly has anger management issues but he tries to be a better person for Zoe. Zoe, on the other hand, is patient and she sees Will in a different light. I am glad that Zoe became a stronger person in the course of their journey and somehow, she learned how to stand up for herself. I liked that she chose to do what she thought was right, even though she knew the consequences. The ending really surprised me. I honestly did not see that coming and it broke my heart. I want to get mad that things ended that way because it was really unfair. After all the crap that Will and Zoe endured their whole lives, they deserve better. Why, Ms. Halbrook, did you have to do that? Why didn’t you give them their happy ending? And the way it happened was just frustrating. I couldn’t believe there can be an ‘accident’ as stupid as that. It was just frustrating.I wasn’t in love with NOBODY BUT US but I really liked it. It was both sad and beautiful. I rarely read something like this and even though the ending made me want to strangle someone, the book is actually good. less

The ending was interesting (kind of), but my god, the characters were insufferable.
