review 1: I was excited to read this book! Why? Cause, this is the 8th book in the series, and up until now, not one really captured my intention. I'm not a romance novel fan, so a book MUST have something more than just "I'm a guy, you're a girl, let's love each other!" Yuck. I like good love stories, I'm not immune to them. BUT, you just have to give me something more! I think it's called - a plot!So, to say it again, I was excited, cause the last book in this series ended with quite a nice promise. I just thought - now the real story starts! Idea was good, it could be elaborated to make a great story.BUT, again, I was left disappointed. Jenna, the human female who was attacked and tortured by the last remaining Ancient is the main character in this book. OK, Brock too. But he lef... moret me unfazed. Yeah, he's big, black, muscles and stuff... but it takes a bit more to make me interested. Like - a character. And his is kind of two-dimensional. But Jenna... she should have been so much more. She's human, but the Ancient integrated a little piece of himself in her spine. That little piece starts to integrate with her whole being and changes her into... something. That idea alone sounds great. Finally something new which doesn't include just a Breed male and a Breedmate. However, while my thoughts were that what was happening to Jenna should be the most prominent thing in the book, it was completely disregarded. There was again a lot of mushy encounters, I-love-you-but-can't-have-yous... A lot of stupid moves (an ex-cop just DOESN'T get herself captured by lowlifes!), and almost NO explanation about what's happening to her body. The Order has their own genius. He knows everything, he's a scientist in every possible field you can think of (well, he's been living a lot of years, so I guess he had time to learn it all...), but he fails to scientifically explain what's happening to Jenna. Actually, they're not giving it much importance. They take her blood work every once in a while and that's it.Jenna and Brock hook up (it's not a spoiler, is it?), and the book ends quite unfinished, leaving it to the next one to shed some light at what will Jenna become. Cause, she's not human anymore.All together: disappointing.
review 2: Confesso que esperava mais deste livro, embora siga quase a mesma linha dos livros anteriores.Depois de ter sofrido nas mãos do Antigo que se encontrava fugido de Dragos, Jenna é levada pela Ordem a fim de a proteger. No entanto uma questão fica no ar, porque é que o Antigo não a matou?Seja porque for, Jenna nunca mais será a mesma e a sua natureza irá mudar para sempre.Brock é um dos mais recentes membros da ordem, melhor amigo de Kade, e com um dom excelente, consegue por momentos absorver a dor de um corpo para o seu. E por isso mesmo ele ajuda Jenna a aliviar a sua dor. E apesar de Brock dizer a si mesmo que só está a tentar ajudar uma humana, a verdade é que já não pode esconder os seus sentimentos perante a mesma.Entretanto a luta contra Dragos continua, muita coisa evolui neste livro, contando com as companheiras de raça a ajudar nas investigações, principalmente feitas no terreno e durante o dia. Junta,-se novos aliados a esta luta mas também se perdem outros.Pessoalmente gostei da história anterior de Brock, o que fazia antes de se tornar membro da Ordem, e não era guerreiro que estivesse curiosa por saber quem era. Já Jenna não achei uma personagem por ai além. Mas o romance até gostei tendo em vista que ela é humana embora com umas alterações. Gostei nela mais o seu lado policial e de investigação.Lara Adrian consegue sempre surpreender, após tantos livros é um milagre. Soube bem sair da linha anterior de guerreiro-companheira de raça. less
