review 1: I could relate to the characters in this book. I have obsessed over a crush to the point where you are acutely aware of them, plan your meetings with them, know what you are going to say, and over analyze everything they say to you. I can also relate to Chris, being a twenty-something year still at home, stuck in that awkward adult dependence. Still being required to answer to your parents because they are kind enough to let you live at home and mooch off of them. I am greatly appreciative but it does become grating when you father still tries to give you a curfew. I feel the story would have been better without Chris's point of view. I didn't feel the author was truly able to assume a male conscious. Some of the things he said I felt should have been coming from a girl th... morean a 21 year party animal that he is.
review 2: I would have rated it higher if it hadn't been for the excessive use of alcohol in the book. I mean, it's a 15 year old drinking like a much older teenager/young adult. Also, can we say alcoholic for Chris? I did like the story, who hasn't fallen in love with a much older person in their teens, and how much it sucks? But the amount of drinking that was not addressed, it was not cool. So, yeah, I tried something new and was not impressed as others. Could be a culture thing, though, as it is an Australian novel... less
