review 1: In an effort of full disclosure: I could not finish this book...As a 40'something woman who travels, has no children, and is intermittently single- I was so tickled to find this book. I wanted to love this book. I wanted to have sentences of this book tattooed upon my aging, traveling, childless flesh.Instead, I made it to the fifth chapter of the book and then posted it promptly on Paperbackswap.comHere is the five chapters in a nut-shell: I am single, I sleep with other people's husbands, and when I turned 40 I freaked out and wrote a book in which I repeated those things ad nauseum in the first five chapters. The End.
review 2: I started out not liking the author that much. She seemed to self-absorbed. I did like her lifestyle- at least how she made a living
... more by traveling all over the world, having adventures and writing about them - maybe not the many affairs she had along the way.As the book progressed, I did become more sympathetic to her situation - wanting to settle down and have a companion, and maybe children before it was too late. But, she wasn't willing to give up the lifestyle she had, a problem many have.By the end of the book, I was rooting for her, as she found happiness, albeit in a somewhat different form than what she thought she wanted. That's the way life is. As they say in Mexico, "You make plans, and God laughs." less
