review 1: I just finished the book a couple of hours ago, and I am still so upset about the ending. I mean I know there's another book coming next month, but COME ON!! Do I have to wait all this time to see what happens to White and Rue's love? With Wren caught between them? And Frith just being a asshole? THIS WAIT IS TOO LONGGGBut seriously, this book was good. I could imagine all of the characters pretty clearly, and they all had very distinct personalities. It took a while for Rue and White to meet, and Rue's life in the farm was pretty boring. I found myself wanting to skip those chapters and focus on Frith and White's exciting life. I have to say, it took me a while to figure out what the difference was between World, Angle Tar and Life. I figured it out, but there wasn't much... more explaining. When I first realized what Life was, the first thing I thought was: Matrix. I mean, right? Who agrees that they sound pretty similar? Anyway, I have to say my favourite character was White. He was so interesting and weird, and I loved how he described the feelings he had for Rue. But Rue was pretty childish about the whole thing. I think she was the whole book, I mean with eventually falling for Wren's words.I KNEW the silver-eyed boy was Wren, even before Frith told us. I mean, he said he was from Life, and where else could Wren have disappeared too? It confirmed my suspicions when Frith said that Wren had escaped to World. I hated Wren. He just wanted to destroy White's life, and White is so sweet. I don't think he deserved Rue, he deserves someone better. *cough cough me* And I found the Castle idea really interesting too.Can I just say, I loved their first meeting. White and Rue hated each other, which is how every great love starts. Ahh, young love. But I thought the whole dance thing was just awkward. I was cringing the whole time.
review 2: Received a reading copy of this from the publishers what a pleasant surprise. I wasn't sure what I would make of it at first, slow to start but my how it progressed. Loved the worlds that were enfolding and the development of the characters. I always like a book that leaves you wanting to know what happens next. This certainly does that and more a dystopian novel which is a bit different. Looking forward to see where this story leads. less
