review 1: I really enjoyed reading Til the Well Runs Dry because it frankly explores so many issues facing Caribbean and Caribbean-American folks - poverty, constrained life and work choices, oppressive rules around femininity and masculinity, emigration, family secrets, non traditional families, etc. I devoured the last hundred pages of this book all in one day. I think Sharma excels at setting up and then delivering on plot points (which I wish I could talk about without risking spoilers!). I must also that I also love this book because it's a love story.
review 2: Good book! I hated Farouk and how he chose to leave Marcia and his children alone. Marcia was also hard to like at times but I think she did what she had to do to survive. I loved Jackie's comment on poor
... more in Trinidad and poor in America - "poor in Trinidad and poor in America had to be pretty much the same, except in Trinidad there was at least a low-hanging fruit that could keep somebody from starving." I sincerely hope that at the end of the book Marcia, Jackie and Wesley have a better life in America together. less
