review 1: This book started out awesomely, and I was really enjoying the main character's view on life. Danielle is unique, funny, and does have some slightly obsessive characteristics, but nothing all that noticeable (definitely does not play in as much as you'd think from the title, which is a bit disappointing). I did begin to get frustrated about 3/4 of the way through the book, because I felt like Danielle was losing some of her charm, and I couldn't see where the book was going (turned out to be pretty anti-climactic). If the book had kept the pace it started with, I would've given it 5 stars. 3 stars for poignance, clarity, and uniqueness.
review 2: Danielle has been going to an alternative high school because she is struggling with some OCD issues. Each year she ... morekeeps a journal/diary/binder of the essays she writes for school and some she writes for herself. She is determined that things will be different this year, but it doesn't start out all that differently. Things go from bad to worse - she's struggling with her new English teacher and not getting the grades she wants in there, she has been referred to the guidance counselor and she has to take a "social skills" class. Though that last one ends up being a great thing, because she meets Daniel there, who quickly becomes her best friend. Daniel also becomes the catalyst for her breakthrough in her facing some of the demons she is locking away and making some progress in healing. This is not a love story - Daniel is gay, but it is a story about coping with a disease, healing and finding yourself again after a tragedy. less
