review 2: This book is not perfect . No, but Ill still give it a five star rating because good childhood friends romance and fairy tale retellings are a weak spot of mine. While the setting is vivid and beautiful, I don't really understand why the masks are so important and needed in their society. I feel like that part needed some more history and explaining because I rolled my eyes a little every time they referenced that no mask = nudity. Also, the way Evie and Aiden speaks sounds a little too modern for a fantasy setting.On to the good stuff: the Romance! The romance and rapport between Evie and Aiden is natural and playful. I squeeed everytime they had screentime together. Evie was also a lovable character. Shes a regular girl with her own flaws and strengths but I love her snark and strong personality. Aiden is also great because he is playful and supportive to her. I just love these two so much.So despite the plot not being the strongest, I really enjoyed this book and hope there is a sequel. I felt just a twinge of annoyance because there was so much left unanswered at the end regarding the Chameleon thinking this was a standalone. I was wondering why the book didn't advance much regarding that part of the plot and now I wonder if there will be a book two. less
