review 1: LC Chase is one of my favourite writers and inspirations, and again with this story she didn’t disappoint. I don’t like putting spoilers on reviews so I’ll keep the detail out. There is a hook right at the beginning, and we really feel for Marty in the first few chapters, after a while I started to like Tripp too. At first I felt as angry as Marty’s friends over the way Tripp was treating his lover and I also understood why Marty couldn’t continue with the relationship the way it was.As usual there is a lot of introspection and exploring the character’s back-stories of what makes them the way they are. The extra touch about this story is the detail of the work Pick-up-men do, which I’d never heard of before, really brings them into the limelight. It also help... mores us understand what makes them who they are, told using extraordinarily powerful prose, which digs deep into the reader. The language is vivid, colourful and builds tension, passion and excitement within the romance. There is, however, tragedy in this story and it’s brought to life really well and sympathetically; it also shows how those personal demons both physical and emotional can be beaten by anyone with the support of someone who loves them. The sex scenes never fail to disappoint and they are always sprinkled with the growing romantic bond between the characters. I did, however, feel that the role of Scott in the story had been left untied, it seemed a little careless to do such a thing and now I realize why – Scott’s is the third story in the series, Pulling Leather. What a tease … I’ve got it on pre order! Note Pick Up Men was 2014 Lambda Literary awards finalist so don’t miss out on a fantastic read.
