review 1: (Damnit. Third time's a charm. Tried to write this review three times and Goodreads ate it, again. And again. Maybe it's a paradox.)I listened to this going to and from work for the last couple of days, and I really enjoyed it. It's a mix of science fiction (time travel), romance (said time traveler has instant lust for the private detective he meets in the past), mystery (said time traveler is trying to track down another runaway time traveler) and thriller (there's a very real ticking clock effect in play that could spell doom). I really enjoyed the time-travel "paradox" aspect of the story; time itself doesn't allow people to stay in the past mucking things up for very long, and throws "coincidence" at them in order to off them and stop the paradox. So, you might slip i... moren the shower. Have a car accident. The longer you're around in the past, the more likely you are to buy it. That really drove the plot from a "gotta keep moving!" point of view. The performer for this one was really deft, and I liked his voice acting. Sometimes when readers do a "rough" voice for tough guys (the private detective is a former cop and former marine) it comes across as a caricature rather than character, but the reader walked the line well. All in all, this was fun.
review 2: I truly enjoyed this book. I was concerned. I started reading the first few paragraphs, and had to stop. I had to take a moment to go back and give it a chance. And I'm so glad I did. One hour later, I was well on my way to Georgetown in the year 2020. I was mesmerized, fascinated, and immediately caught up in the sc- fi love adventure that is Saul and Reegan's story. I love Saul. He called to me. I understood him and at times it pained me to admit that, and other times I was overcome with this immense sense of love, respect and longing to find completeness as he finally does. The ending words are words and sentiments I hold deep in my heart and give me hope that time allows us to overcome our feelings of self discrimination. We are more than our history, and the need to wish, hope, and believe are vital to our existence. Bravo Ms. Drew. A fascinating, emotionally evoking novel of such immense proportion. I'm about to start another of her books, " Bending the Iron". I have large expectations, and will report accordingly. less
