review 1: Clancy and Millie and the Very Fine HouseClancy and his family have just moved into a new house and Clancy appears to be very unhappy. His parents adore the new large spacious house and try to convince Clancy of all the wonderful new things that this house will bring. All he wants is the little old cosy cottage that they have just moved away from. He sits alone and remembers the old house, his old room and the old fireplace. Clancy decides to go outside to play and it isn’t long until he discovers all of the large brown cardboard boxes that haven’t been lifted since the move. As he is playing he hears the voice of a little girl around his age. It is his next door neighbour Millie. The two start playing together and build a very fine house out of the brown boxes. This b... moreook captures the uncertainty of a big move, one that can be especially daunting for children as it may be a move into the unknown for them. The moving boxes are a sign of what Clancy moved away from to something which he has moved to. Clancy and Millie and the Very Fine House is excellent at conveying a message of new friendships, a big move and the power of imagination to make new things.
review 2: This was a little more elementary than I had anticipated. It's a sweet story of a boy that moves from a cozy, little house, to a large, empty one. He's convinced he will never be happy in the house even though his mother repeatedly tells him how wonderful the new house is. Eventually the boy meets a girl in the neighborhood and they become friends. This would be great for kids that are moving, ages 4-8. less
