review 1: I did not check the genre of the book before I started reading it and was thus thoroughly surprised to find an erotic romance. I am not a fan of erotica so in all probability I would not have picked this book to read if I had been aware of the genre. After reading the book though I am glad that I did not skip it because the stories were really good. The stories were all sweet, sensuous and even fluffy at times. And if the other books in this series are as good as this one, then I am definitely going to give them a try.
review 2: To be honest, this is the first book by Lila DiPasqua that I read and I got her name when I was looking for similar authors to Robin Schone. This book pales in comparison to Schone's work, but I do feel it deserves a review on its own, w
... moreithout being pitted against others'.There are 3 stories in the book. All derived from famous fairy tales: (1) Sleeping Beauty, (2) Little Red Riding Hood and (3) Puss in Boots. For those of you who expect to a strong fairy tale theme, you will be disappointed. There were very little reference to the original story. Seriously. Very little characterization too. Don't expect to be brimming with emotions at any part of the book. Plot is too cliche, but the story line flows smoothly. Read on if you don't mind spoilers.(1) Sleeping BeauAdrien is a son of the King and that's about the only similarity to Sleeping Beauty that I managed to recall. He's a legitimized bastard son though, so I'm not sure if that makes him a prince :s. The story goes like this: tumbling, tumbling, more tumbling and the great rake who stays away from love finally decided to yield. Tada! Happy ending. Well that is to be expected and I don't condemn the cliche, but shouldn't the man at least put up a bit more of internal fight against the notion of marriage? Sigh.(2) Little Red WritingAnne is associated with a lot of red and Nicolas' nickname is Le Loup-the Wolf. There's a little bit of a trap being set by the wolf, so that means the second story has somewhat more semblance to the original classic. However, up till the end of the book, I have no idea why he is nicknamed the Wolf nor does he live up to his nickname. Sigh.(3) Bewitching in BootsElizabeth loves to wear boots and is somewhat handy with a sword. That's about the most I can get from 'Puss in Boots' theme. (This is the Shrek's version anyway, not sure if the old classic said anything about the cat wielding a sword.)I must say the last story gives me a wee bit of a pleasant surprise towards the ending. I was so sure the man will hate the woman first, brood in solitude then regrets it and ran out to claim the love of his life. I was wrong. It could be the effect of downing the stories in one go, but whatever. Tristan, with his brusque manner and all, somehow managed to be more 'wolfish' than le Loup himself. Just my opinion. All in all it was an enjoyable read, but does not quite cut the fabolous category. Oh, did I mention that all the characters are physically attracted to each other the moment they see each other? Not my kind of romance. The man keeps saying the woman is different from the rest but the author fails to point out how. I guess I need more substance to fully enjoy books like this. I had given it 3 stars as a stand-alone review. If I were to compare it to Schone's works (she's my favorite), I'd give it a meager 2 stars. less
