review 1: Leading with L.L. Miller, J. Shalvis, and L. Monroe in this collection when their stories are recycled from 2005 means that only K. Angell's and C. Johnson's stories are new. Not assigning starred ratings for the old stories because their vibe comes off as dated even though they were published less than a decade ago. No Shirt, No Shoes, No Service 2.75 stars by Kate Angell Violet and Brad's story would have worked for me if only K.A. had included a few lines about Brad's keeping in contact with Violet during his many years away from her. Violet's instantaneous, unquestioning acceptance of Brad's return combined with the way she allows her sister to treat her makes Violet seem spineless. Strong writing in terms of sense of place and characterizations, but Brad seems presump... moretuous and Violet seems weak. Fish Out of Water 3 starsby Cat JohnsonThe setup resonates as current. The cast of characters is an interesting mix. Carla and Mark's opposites-attract connection is believable. Being on the pill as "protection" from STIDs is dangerously incorrect and outdated. Otherwise, FOOW is an enjoyable, easy breezy read.
review 2: This book is a perfect beach or vacation read. Each story is short and steamy with just enough plot and background info to get you interested in the characters, while the focus remains on the relationship. None of the stories get too deep, and there aren’t a lot of conflicts to resolve. It is also a great representation of each authors’ writing styles.I think my favorite couple were Carla and Ross at the end. I like the opposites attract idea, and could sort-of relate. Tabby and Calder’s story was more on the sweet side. He was definitely more patient than I was when it came to dealing with her insecurities, which were a bit annoying to be honest. Gayle and Tristan’s story was the hottest for me, but I’ve always been a bit partial to cowboys! I felt a little bad for them, and the fact that they missed out on so many years that could have been amazing. Who really walks out on your high school sweetheart and doesn’t speak for 10 years? I did get really interested in James and Ella’s backstory, and would probably enjoy a few full-length books about them. Their story seemed to be the most interesting with the danger element added. Violet and Brad’s story was probably the most run-of-the-mill, nothing unusual and almost cliché at times. They had some pretty steamy scenes that made it enjoyable though. Overall, a good read that allows breaks between stories. Definitely worth the read.Rating: 4HEAT Rating: HotReviewed By: Daysie W.Review Courtesy of: My Book Addictions and More less
