review 1: Eh...kind of sums up how I felt about this book. I didn't hate it, I kind of have an indifferent feeling towards it. I do have the next in the series that I picked up for cheap, so I will probably read it... someday, but I am definitely not in any hurry to continue the series. The story just felt a little flat to me. I never really fell for any of the characters and the relationship between the the two leads just didn't feel authentic to me. I liked the male lead more than the female who just rubbed me the wrong way at times, but even thou I liked him he just felt off. Maybe I am just used to more Alpha males in these stories and he was just too watered down. The story centered around three main characters, well...and a fourth, I guess, but she disappeared half way ... morethrough the book only to be seen briefly at the end. It was like she was just forgotten about and her part of the story never really was resolved. Maybe the author means to pick it up in another book, but at this point I really don't care. The author is trying to build up this interesting complex new world to play in, but it just feels like too much too soon and we don't ever get enough information about all the elements that she throws at us. I still don't quite get the rules of this new world. Either I needed more information or the details I did get should have been left out.
review 2: OK, this is book 1 in the Demons series but it should really be known as #5 in the Jazz Tremaine & Friends series (which is what I'm renaming them) since the main character is one of Jazz's friends, Maggie. It's a typical Linda Wisdom paranormal romance - full of natural humor, sassy women, good friends, wonderful side characters, some hot sex, action, and adventure. If you've like the Jazz books then you'll enjoy this one just fine! If you haven't read the Jazz series first you will be a little lost in parts and it'll give you spoilers for them - be warned! less
