I Heart
review 1: The fourth book in the wonderful 'I Heart' series by Lindsey Kelk. After the dramas and quarrels from New York, Hollywood and Paris, we expect nothing out of the ordinary for our dear Angela in glitzy Las Vegas. And boy, Kelk really does deliver in this one!So, recapping from the end of Paris, Angela is on the brink of losing her job and her visa. But, she's just moved in with lovely, lovely Alex. Bonus, right?'I Heat Vegas' picks up a few weeks before Christmas with Angela having lost her position at 'The Look' magazine, which means bye bye visa. Unfortunately, the worst happens when she receives the deportation notice in the post, telling her she has 30 days to gain a new visa or leave the US. Very bad start. The novel builds with genius interventions of our familiar frie... morend Jenny and Erin, all of whom tell Angie the easiest thing she can do is just marry Alex - instant visa. But, Angie doesn't want to do that. Marrying someone just for a visa isn't her ideal - she wants to marry Alex because she loves him but, more importantly, she wants to gain her visa off her own merit. After some very trying times, Jenny suggests that she, Angie and Erin take a girls weekend trip to Vegas. Switch Erin to Sadie after a surprise pregnancy, add in Jenny's ex - Jeff - bachelor party which Alex is invited too, and our fabulously gay James Jacobs and you've got Vegas baby. With the novel being set in the place where everyone just stupid things - especially marry - what else would you expect from Angie's adventures in Nevada? Well, the distressing part of this novel is when Angela finally plucks the courage to ask Alex to marry her so she can get her visa. It was a toughie to read, especially Alex's stunned and upset reaction to her. Needless to say they didn't go ahead with it - mainly because when they reached the chapel, Jenny and Jeff were busy getting hitched!! (Not legally, mind! It doesn't count.) Things turn sour between Jenny and Angela and Angie and Alex, so life is a big puddle of poopy. Alex refuses to talk to Angie for about 10 days or so, and it's a bit of a back-breaker... I mean, come on dude! Pick up the pieces and get our girl!My favourite part was the ending. I was sitting open-mouthed through Alex's proposal. The boy did good! I can't wait to see what happens in London. The only reason this book didn't get a five-star was because of the confusion over ages. In Paris we celebrated Alex's 30th birthday (It was a big thing for him because he didn't want to get old) and Angie was 27 at the time. Now, in Vegas, we're with Alex at 31 and Angie at 28? We can't have passed a whole year, Kelk!! I doubt the US immigration are that slack on when they contact people! Otherwise, it's a great novel that had me laughing no less than the previous three!Righto! Back to London we go!!
review 2: I was kind of ready for Angela just to drop back ten and punt when it came to Alex. He gets mad because she is not taking her deportation seriously, then mad when she breaks down and asks to marry him as a last resort. It's not as if he should not have known her well enough to know she was not serious about marriage being just a piece of paper and she obviously could not know about his surprise. So his ten day no communication punishment was a bit ridiculous and speaks volumes for what she can expect when they are married and disagree. less
