review 1: This book is such a mess! The story started interesting: Caithlyn was going to study in France, where she starts to have dreams in the times when Catherine de Medici ruled. Lots weird and creepy things happens. Caithlyn falls in love with a guy that, apparently just live in that time and she needs to help him to find out about a secret of a Knight Templar's treasure. And also has this mystery about Bia's ghost.Well, so far, it was interesting what the author made: mixing truly personalities with fictional characters. But she totally ruined with the end! With Caithlyn being dead or not, Raphael coming back to life in someone'd body, because he was waiting for a chance to return to her. I mean, if she was dead all the time and looking for him for four hundred years, why he ne... morever founds her in the castle?!And that she also had kind of two lifes! One, as a Woman in Black looking for her lover and the other living lots of other lives. Totally a nonsense! And Raphael coming back in someone else's body, which means with a different appearance, but that was also ok, Cainthly felt for him, even so!I think all this made me dislike this book!
review 2: This was a haunting love story, literally. I really liked this book, but I didn't love it. I did feel attached to the characters, and felt sad at the more tragic part of the story. I think the strength of this book was its plot, mainly it's unique paranormal aspect and the "story" part of it. I didn't love the characters and Caitlyn was a mediocre main character and I'm unsure of the instant romance between her and Raphael, who didn't really stand out either. The story however was original and intriguing, filled with mystery and history. A few things happened that I didn't really follow, and I couldn't really figure out if one of the supposed villains was actually a hero/heroine or not. Sure, I guess the author could've been trying to avoid black and white villains and characters, but I don't think that's what happened. Towards the end I fell into the emotional roller-coaster with Caitlyn and felt like the mysteries were kept suspenseful throughout and not entirely obvious. However, the ending left a lot to be desired. It seemed like a set-up for a sequel, but there's no sequel? Yet, not everything was revealed and there was some unfinished business, if you ask me. Somethings were wrapped up nicely however. Truthfully, maybe I should have rated it a three, but I was too engrossed in the story and that is more important to me. less
