review 1: it was alright. it was good for my purpose of reading it, but i'm not big on middle school drama books. i needed a lighthearted book and this was perfect for that. i loved Dina's character and how positive she is about most everything. Chelsea was alright. i mean, she is like most middle school students, wants to be popular, wants to keep up friends, doesn't care about projects unless its with friends, and much more. by the end she got better, but i noticed i couldn't wait till i got to Dina's point of view at times. i would only really recommend this book to younger girls who like middle school drama books.
review 2: In Greenwald's Reel Life Starring Us Chelsea is queen bee at Rockwood Hills Middle School, but she had mono and missed the first month of eighth ... moregrade. It was easier for her to keep her secret that way. Dina is the new girl who's always carrying around a video camera and wonders how she could have been so popular at her school back in the Berkshires and such a loser now. Both begin school late and are assigned to work together on a project for the 50th anniversary of the school. I was initially unimpressed with what seemed to be typical middle school fare, but Dina addresses mean girl issues well and Chelsea has issues of her own that finally allow her to see the world through a different lens. The ending's tied up a bit too neatly, but my sixth graders will love it and might take lessons about not letting others define you to heart. Good book. less
