review 1: Oh dear, what a train wreck! Where to start? Too much harping on people's love lives perhaps - I don't need to be reminded in every chapter how much Montoya loves banging his wife. As for Val - she clearly wanted to get back with her husband, so just do it and quit with the introspection. Lucia was planning to leave the convent - so just go, why all the cloak and dagger stuff? It made no sense. The "supernatural" elements were just silly and didn't add to the plot. The murders were obviously an inside job but the cops didn't look closely enough. and then, when you're holding a gun on the killer just shoot already (maybe don't shoot to kill) and quit with the talking. Val kept reminding us she used to be a detective so act like one. Meh, I don't think I can read another of ... morethese.
review 2: This is my first in the Bentz and Montoya series (this is #7), and although a bit rough at times as far as being graphic about the murders, found the writing to be excellent as far as keeping me in suspense on who was the villain. Set in a convent, nuns are being murdered and lots of secrets are being kept, in the confessional and during police interviews. Do not ruin the ending...read all the way through and don't look at the ending...otherwise you will miss a great surprise. There is also a romantic sideline that keeps the plot interesting. less
