review 1: It was like a big Rainytown reunion, as Callie headed back to town to pack some things in the old house at her Aunt Emily's place. Frankie is the tough, rugged, say whats on her mind kind of personality. Callie seems to be the soft and caring one. Paulie, Mary Frances brother, is a stud. Watch out, as Callie and Paulie may or may not get a little too close. Frankie has the hard job, of taking care of her mother who is very sick. This was for me, the most touching and testing part of the novel. The book is very intriguing, and makes you want to see how far certain relationships will go, get stronger or become invisible. The only thing that got me, was that the cover of the book did not do its justice. When reading through it, I imagined a sculpted man with his shirt off, loo... moreking lovingly at Callie. I love the authors style of writing, as I do at times find the book has many humorous elements in it as well.
review 2: I'm a sucker for a novel that doesn't rely on an obvious enemy, a tale of good and evil, but rather digs in deep and examines human behavior from the inside out. In Crooked Moon, a reunion occurs between two women, each of whom seems compelled to reconcile her past and move forward, somewhere, but neither seems quite sure how to go about doing so. Secrets, as they do, are weighing them down. And boy! These women have secrets. This book was both fun and filled with surprising insight. The writing is excellent, as is the storytelling. I read this on my Kindle, a little bit at a time each night, and I enjoyed every minute of it. I enjoyed the escapism but the reality of it. The thing that's unique about the book: It's fun and light and humorous without compromising the exploration that a storyteller must be willing to engage in. This is a study in human behavior and a damn good story, all in one. Not an easy feat! less
