review 1: Well. To keep the rant short and sweet - low two stars. I can't say I hated it but can't really say I liked it all too much. It's rushed in places; slow in others. It's got potential comic effect that comes to nothing and an obviously clueless heroine who after ages and ages of friendship realizes her best friend is selfish (a kettle-pot situation if I ever saw one). It definitely didn't click and felt vaguely ... meh?
review 2: This was my second time reading this book. Happy to say that this experience was much better than the first. It felt like I had missed some of the story my first time through it, even after backtracking a couple times to see if I had missed something. I had no such problems this time through and, I really enjoyed the read.I felt really
... morebadly for Kiera most of this story, starting with the crazy, overbearing, mother of a "best friend", Evelyn. Seems like everyone is allowed to make choices for Kiera except for Kiera herself. But, Kiera is a pretty independent woman and never let the alien ways bowl her over. She felt a deep connection to A'Ran as soon as she met him. But, the relationship that started was a bit forced and very precarious. I was happy to see that everything worked itself out. Kiera and A'Ran both had a lot of growing and changing to do, the weight of a world and its people, literally, resting squarely on their shoulders. The same overbearing mother of a "best friend" who threw them together was the same who tore them apart just when they had "found" one another. Thrust back into her previous life with nothing more than hurt and memories, Kiera truly missed what she never realized that she had grown to love. True to form, Evelyn appeared asking for a favor that had everything to do with herself, not giving much thought to how Kiera felt. But, Kiera had hope, hope of getting back everything that she took for granted and thought that she had lost. Find out what happens and read the book for yourself. Looking forward to the next book! less
