review 1: I absolutely loved this book. I had picked it up in the library on a whim, and it turned out to be am entrancing read. There are so many different kinds of love examined in this book. Hate, betrayal, and all kinds of other passions are shown as well. I constantly changed my opinion on what future I wanted for Rosamund, and though (to me) the ending was sad, there was something that seemed right about it. What else could have happened with so much soul consuming love?
review 2: A novel written about 1866 and quite amazing because of when it was written. This was a story so sensational it could not be published during Louisa May Alcott's lifetime. I had never heard of it until one of our book club members told us about it.It starts "I tell you I cannot bear it!
... moreI shall do something desperate if this life is not changed soon. I gets worse and worse, and I often feel as if I'd gladly sell my soul to Satan for a year of freedom."This is still a novel to read and enjoy even though a few of the premises are now known to be untrue. As one review states, "A Long Fatal Love Chase tells a compulsive tale of love, desire, and deceit." I would have liked a different ending but then it wouldn't be a Victorian novel.I truly enjoyed reading it. less

Who knew? Not a book that is familiar to most by this author. Captivating until the very end.

I absolutely loved this book! A historical romance/suspense and so beautifully written.

Promising start, went downhill, didn't even finish it.

A far cry from Little Women and I liked it better.
