DI David Murphy and DS Laura Rossi
review 1: I really enjoyed this. Set in Liverpool two detectives, David Murphy and Laura Rossi, are trying to solve, what they originally think is just the one murder, but when two more bodies are found in quick succession they realise they are looking for a serial killer. He leaves letters with the bodies for the police to find and they are really the only clues the detectives have to go on. In them the killer boasts about his remarkable work;'his experiments' as he calls them. I didn't have a clue who the murderer was until right at the end; it was so cleverly written. The only negative thing I can say about it is that the chapters were not numbered, but dated. Going back and fourth in time; sometimes it was a little confusing. Apart from that this is one of the best books I have r... moreead in quite a while and probably the best 99 pence I've ever spent (not sure if Amazon are still selling it at that price)and would highly recommend it; I will certainly be on the lookout for more by Luca Vest.
review 2: A very interesting debut novel, one I was drawn to by the compliment on the cover given by Mark Billingham, a new favourite of mine. This book introduced characters that I could relate to, especially as their flaws were on show as much as their strengths. I enjoyed the psychological angle, as a previous psychology student, and it provided a fresh take on the crime/police procedural novel. I look forward to reading more by this author. less
