review 1: I received a copy of this book from the author in return for an honest review. This is the first book in a fantastic YA Paranormal Romance. I loved it!Jade is a wonderful character. I liked her very much. She is a normal teenager, or is she? Her past is a mystery, but when a new student catches her eye, and she begins to fall in love, events are set in motion that throws Jade into a cat and mouse game with a deadly foe.I started reading this book and was hooked from the first page! I loved meeting Jade's best friends, Claire and Nate. They are a fantastic couple, but they have their own secrets. Avan is a hottie! I felt jealous of Jade. He is kind, generous and loving. However, the further I read into the story, I found some of the scenes similar to other stories I had previ... moreously read. I'm not saying that there was any impropriety by the author, just that the story followed a pattern that other authors had employed, and there were no major twists and turns to keep me as interested as I should have been. That being said, I really did enjoy the story, and am looking forward to reading the continuing two books in the trilogy.Lucy Swing has written an intriguing start to a trilogy. Her writing style is fast paced and it flowed beautifully. Her characters came alive on the page, and I'm looking forward to seeing how she grows as an author.I recommend this book if you love YA Paranormal Romance. - Lynn Worton
review 2: I read this book in a day. The story kept me engaged right from the start, diving right in with the mysteries that I instantly wanted answers to. Even when I got answers in the story, more questions arose, and there was always one more mystery I wanted solved, so I simply couldn't put it down. The protagonist is occasionally frustrating and definitely flawed (as any good one should be), but she's also incredibly realistic, battling within herself to believe the unbelievable and control the demons that live within each of us. The other main characters were just as interesting and really won me over. The descriptions in the book had me easily picturing everything and everyone. The end of the book kept me wanting more and has me eagerly awaiting the next in the series. The mythology the author included/created was fascinating as were the personal histories for the characters. If I have any complaint it's that at times I noticed a few minor inconsistencies and the flow of the story occasionally felt a bit forced, but neither detracted from my enjoyment of the story overall. The book was overall well-written and very suspenseful. To me the best part is that the ending actually surprised me, which happens rather infrequently (especially in PN romance-type books). If you like fallen angel stories, interesting mythology, intriguing mysteries and great characters you'll love this book as much as I did. I'll definitely be recommending it to some friends. less
