review 1: Oggi la recensione di un libro molto particolare. L'ho letto in una sola notte. L'inizio è stato alquanto lento ma dopo un paio di giorni di calibro, si è stabilizzato il tutto.Ho sensazioni davvero contrastanti su questo libro, linizio l'ho trovato un pò noioso ma poi andando avanti il libro si è rivelato davvero molto interessante.La sotria parla di Rosie e Jonathan una coppia consacrata a 15 anni di fidanzamento perenne. Lui appassionato di Tazze da collezione, dopo il fallimento lavorativo e lei repressa dalla sua ossessione. Più che quarantenni, Rosie e Jonathan sono gli unici fra i loro amici a non aver messo su famiglia e a vivere da eterni fidanzati in un quadrilocale che sembra arredato da due studenti. Impossibile immaginare che a pochi giorni da quel sabat... moreo Jonathan si inginocchierà davanti a Rosie chiedendole di sposarlo e seguirlo in California! La prima a storcere il naso di fronte all’improvvisa proposta è l’energica nonna Soapie: sognatrice, anticonformista, irriverente, Soapie ha sempre spronato Rosie a osare nella vita, a coltivare le sue passioni e seguire i suoi desideri. Per questo non capisce cosa spinga la nipote sull’altra sponda dell’ oceano, dietro a un ragazzotto con la passione per le tazzine di porcellana. Dopo il mancato matrimonio, la loro vita cambierà drasticamente .Ognuno può scegliere come gestire la sua vita, ognuno può scegliere di essere felice, oppure no. Scegliere di vivere in un eterno limbo o in una fase di amore perenne. Il romanzo è contrastante ma scritto molto bene. La scrittrice ha saputo perfettamente inquadrare la situazione, anche se la storia non è semplice ma molto articolata. Si svolge in maniera esaustiva e molto carina. Il contrasto interiore della protagonista è molto ambiguo ma alla fine sceglie la strada giusta. Tutto si racchiude in quasi 400 pagine. Un romanzo sentito nell'anima e nel corpo, nel cuore e nella mente. Una storia di rinascita anche per chi ha qualche anno in più e vuole riscattarsi. Perchè la protagonista non è proprio giovanissima. Ho pianto, ho riso e ho gioito, insomma questo romanzo ha tutte le carte necessarie per farvi sognare. Buona Lettura.
review 2: I had just finished another book with a very similar story and almost didn't start this one because of that. However, once I got into Maddie Dawson's story I was hooked. It really was like nothing I'd read before. The fact that Rosie was 44 when she finds herself pregnant for the first time and has just left her boyfriend with whom she has lived for 15 years made this different from the run of the mill chick lit stories about women in their 20s or early 30s. Rosie's process of making the decision about whether or not to proceed with her pregnancy felt real and very "adult" compared with younger literary characters. I never felt the need to throttle her like I so often do in other books! When Rosie leaves Jonathan, she moves with her aging grandmother Soapie who is nearing the end of her life. Soapie raised Rosie from the age of 3 and is all the "family" Rosie has. But also living with Soapie are George, her lover /companion/friend, and Tony a 30-something gardener/caretaker (of Soapie, and to a lesser extent George). Tony becomes Rosie's chief support through her pregnancy and later something much more. After Jonathan decides he wants to be back in Rosie's (and the baby's) life, Rosie must make a decision about the future. I loved Rosie. She was a strong character with true to life foibles. I was sorry when the book ended wanting to continue to be a part of her life. I recommend this book and have no qualms about giving it a 5 star review. less
