review 1: I actually started this book last year, it was so bad that I had to stop reading. And the writing is fine, there are no technical issues with plot, pacing, storyline or anything else. The reason I hated this book was Kate, which is a shame because she's the main character. I have no idea what anyone saw in this whiny, self-pitying, indecisive alcoholic. Her friends are awesome and fight her battles for her. The story starts with a challenge issued by her boss, and instead of coming up with a plan or confronting her boss. She whines to Hermoine and Hermoine comes up with a plan and then has to convince the stupid woman to do it. Kate was too busy whining about how horrible her life is, how she's being picked on, and how she is doomed to be humiliated by the mean lady. Her f... moreriend Linda fights her battle in the office against said lady boss. All she has to do is fight her douche bag of an exhusband and his witch of a girlfriend. And instead she pines for the jerk most of the book, it's truly sickening. And instead of jumping ship, which would be completely understandable, Joel, the other main character, even fights for their relationship while she pines and does everything she can to push him away.
review 2: Such a sweet and charming book! I am sure that the majority of women could definitely identify with Kate e.g. broke, heart broken, stressed etc! LOL! Although this is typical girl meet boy; girl tries to NOT fall in love; girl falls in love...the background of the story is great! I just loved the game show theme, psycho ex-hubs, psycho wig wearing boss and some PTSD for good measure! Loved it! less
