review 1: Awww - what a great book. This is nothing earth-shattering or highly emotional in this book, but it is a great read just the same - perhaps because of its utter stability and day-to-day issues. I loved the MCs' quirks and faults; the blend of lifestyles; the family friction; and the overall humour throughout the writing. Nothing is perfect but these boys make their life together as good as can be with what is left to them.
review 2: The book's cover is quite self-explanatory. Going in I was aware how sweet and wholesome it would be, which was fine by me because I'd rather know something like that beforehand than find out that I bargained for something completely different. As it turns out, I wasn't all that off-base anyway save for the fact that the Boys and
... more the Bees isn't just a romance but it's also about the salt-of-the-earth protagonist, Mark coming in to his own, learning to stand his ground and being vocal about his needs instead of just putting others' ahead of his all the time. Neither there is over-the-top or histrionic melodrama nor a whirlwind romance, most of the tension stems from/is rooted in the everyday hardships and familial issues that most people can identify with. Oh, and how charming was the object of Mark's affection, Jamie, the devoted to a fault environmentalist/political activist. It's not often that I come across endearing weirdos like Jamie. Not to mention that while the ending can definitely be categorised as an HEA, not everything gets resolved and tied up in a pretty little bow which felt very realistic to me. This is a solid debut novel by Mari Donne with a believable setting and empathetic characters. So, if you're in the mood for something sweet, light and heartwarming but not cavity inducing sweet, give this book a shot. less
