review 1: I think that this is a great read that peers under the surface of one of the largest corporations in the world where money matters far more than morals. This book will lead you through convoluted past of Monsanto, from Agent Orange to plutonium to roundup to our food etc. It goes through the webbed relationships Monsanto has within the government, such as ties in the Pentagon, EPA, FDA, and politicians. Monsanto's influence reaches around the world, and even can strong-arm scientists in GMO free countries. This biotech/agriscience corporation is still largely shrouded in a mist. It has used shady business tactics bordering on criminal, and the fines they have to pay or laughable. Despite bias and (now) some outdated studies in the book, it is an excellent read that calls u... mores to question the use of Americans as test subjects for GMOs.
review 2: While reading this book, I became horrified and upset. I had no idea about the history of how Monsanto came to be and the amount of destruction they cause up to the present and without a single concern for their consumers. I would have thought there would be a conscious person who would stand up for the human civilization and for the environment within the organization. I was wrong. Throughout the book, there were times I had to stop every few paragraphs or pages because I was angry and couldn't focus. So many people have stood up to them and the powerhouse still roll over them without regard. This is a great book if you want an eye-opener of the effects that this company has on human lives and the environment. less
