review 1: There's something about this book that didn't really cut it out for me. While I was reading, there was a small, incessant, and incomprehendible voice in the back of my mind that annoyed me to no end.The main character, Allegra is a sassy and independent woman with attitude and colourful language. She was hilarious to read about but she seemed too perfect. Great teacher, great singer, attracts all the men, AND she's able to solve a whole mystery with little to no help? Maybe I've been living in my little shell for too long and women like her actually exists. Still, she definitely gave the book some flair.There is no doubt that Allegra is the shining star. While the other characters in book are more of a twinkle, a few of them really stood out to me. No, it was not Sloan (he... more annoyed me with his macho and stubborn ways, blah). They were certainly great characters with a lot of personality.As for the whole mystery, I found it a bit too easy. Yeah sure, there was a couple times of doubt, but Allegra and Nick seemed to sail by all conflict with ease. Even I figured it out less than halfway through the book, and I'm usually one who can never get mysteries right.Overall, a great, quick read. The characters will dazzle you and boy, does Allegra put on an amazing show.
review 2: What a wonderful surprise. This book had me from the first sentence, "Panty hose are a tool of the devil." Allegra Thome is a teacher for dysfunctional teenages in a small town in Washington. At night she sings Karoake. While buying a pair of pany hose she disrupts a drug bust by accident and meets Sloan, a tough but sexy DEA agent. After one of her students turns up missing, Allegra's nephew suffering from cystic fibrosis asks for her aid in helping to find the girl. However, the police dismiss her concerns and suddenly her position at work is in jeopardy and her car is vandalized. It seems no one wants her to pursue the matter. That does not stop her and boy want a tangled web of intrigue and mystery follows. I became familiar with the author through her young adult series Moonstone. While visiting her website, I discovered the release of this adult mystery book. I almost past it up and boy, am I glad I didn't. It was truly amazing. I hope she writes a follow up novel. This is definitely a good read. less
