Down the TBR Hole #6

I originally saw Down the TBR Hole on JamiShelves and my interest was immediately peaked. Starting over at Lost in a Story, the rules state:

  • Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?

And so, since I had already vowed to attempt sorting my Goodreads shelves, this seemed the natural extension.

My TBR currently sits at 478 – not as bad as some – but most definitely an overwhelming feat to get through*

*Who knows what small furry creatures, potentially with tentacles, are hiding in there

My aim is to assess ten books every week (approximately), weighing the pros and cons, and then making an ultimate decision: the book will remain on my TBR, the book will be deleted from shelves, or the books will arrive on a maybe shelf (I am assuming this is where many MANY of my classics will end up).

Pros

+ I’ve always wanted to read this series

+ Gonna be honest I think it’s the covers

+ But also 4+ stars on GRs

Cons

+ I’m gonna have to buy these books

+ For some reason my library only has book #4 and #5 in the series???

+ ????!!!!?!?!

Decision time

+ I want to do a YA TBR backlist next year so I’ll finally pick these up then

Pros

+ I love dark retellings

+ While I don’t read them often I do really enjoy anthologies

Cons

+ I don’t recognize any of these authors

+ I actually only recognize like half of the rhymes being retold

Decision time

+ I think I like the idea of this one more than anything

+ I’ll lose it

Pros

+ Lauren Oliver ♥♥♥♥

+ This is one of the most rec’d Oliver books I’ve seen

Cons

+ Despite the recs it’s got less than 4 stars on GRs

Decision time

+ I want to read all the Oliver books tbh

Pros

+ Another book I’ve seen rec’d a fair bit

+ OzLit!

+ Already on my shelf!!!

Cons

+ It’s soooo long (612 pgs)

+ While it’s 4+ on GRs there are quite a few 1 star reviews as well

Decision time

+ I want to attempt this one at least

+ I’ll hold onto it for the next #tometopple

Pros

+ A book about English lit and true crime? Sounds super interesting

Cons

+ I dunno reading the book I feel like I’m bracing for something a bit dry

+ I almost always struggle with biographies

+ I feel like I can’t trust an author who also uses their ‘Dr’ title on a book

Decision time

+ I don’t think I’ll ever bother looking for this one

Pros

+ It’s a book about books!

Cons

+ I want to read this as a YA/NA tbh

Decision time

+ I just want this to be something a little different

+ I don’t think I’ll keep this one

Pros

+ This sounds like a book people fall in love with

Cons

+ I have discovered I’m not a big fan of historical fiction

+ They have to be incredible and they also have to be YA

Decision time

+ Bye

Pros

+ I used to be such a big thriller fan

Cons

+ I dunno there is nothing in the blurb that is speaking to me

Decision

+ Scrap it

Pros

+ A slightly more interesting thriller

Cons

+ I said slightly

+ This still pretty typical mystery/thriller

Decision time

+ I went through my thriller phase

+ But I’m now done with it

Pros

+ “For fans of The Book Thief and Pan’s Labyrinth

+ I do love all things dark and grisly

Cons

+ Mixed reviews and historical fic inclusion

+ I haven’t really heard anyone talk about this book

Decision time

+ I haven’t decided on this one
