review 1: I love dogs and I had recently lost my dog too. So I picked up the book with compassion and understanding. The books begin about a man and his close companion Humphrey's. As his owner describes him I could see what a wonder dog Humphrey's is. Then the story gets sad. His owner describes that terrible event when Humphrey passes away. As I read on the character Mark Asher remind the reader how people discard their animals like yesterday's fashion. Very sad, but then the book took a turn for the worse. As Humphrey's owner is recovering from his loss he begins to volunteer. But then he starts to think maybe he should get a dog and this is when I didn't like the book anymore he plays on the affection of the dogs. He takes a dog home and then decides he is not ready. H... moree does this about three more times. I forced myself to read on in hopes that he gets a dog, but he does not. I was disappointed and annoyed with the book. I got this book for free from bookbub.com. Glad I didn't spend my money on this one.
review 2: If you have ever had a pet you have probably experienced the grief of loss. This is a touching story of how one man's best friend touched his life and how he moved on when he lost that friend. I am an animal lover and have experienced that loss on several occasions. I teared up several times while reading this book.It is well written and its words will ring true to all of the animal lovers out there who will take the time to read it. less
