review 1: This was a very hard book for me to read. Not because it is based on a true story about a 17 year old who has osteosarcoma, but because of the number of times the author uses the words cheerleader and cheer leading. I haven't rolled my eyes at a book that much ever. Maybe I am just that far out of high school to remember how shallow I was but wow!! The end of the book did get better but it was a rough road to get to the end.
review 2: A strong, important-addition-to-the-genre book about a girl being diagnosed with a cancerous leg tumor, giving up her summer to undergo treatment, and finding a way to bounce back her senior year. It was a little heavy-handed on Christian themes at times - make no mistake, I'm all for the refreshingly realistic acknowledgment tha
... moret some teens actually have a strong faith in God, and it's highly appropriate in this situation, but when her mother would go on about "the Christian thing to do" or not complaining because God had been merciful, it started to feel overwrought - and at other times the writing felt too simplistic, the narrator a little one-dimensional. But as far as offering an introductory overview to treatments and how one might cope with such a diagnosis, building up a solid world & cast of supporting characters, it's golden. less
