review 1: Rating overviewWriting: ★★★Story: ★★Characters: ★★Overall: ★★ (2.33)~~~Mary Calmes may just not be for me *sighs*... I know she is liked my many but I just cannot seem to be able to warm up to her.To be fair, I mainly picked this up for the sake of a challenge, probably wouldn't have otherwise as paranormal is rarely my go-to. However, at first this really surprised me as it was not paranormal at all. It was just a man, having been cheated on and then falling for another man... To break this book down into three broad layers is easy:First 50% - Please go home with me, pretty, pretty pleaseNext 40% - admittedly hot sex and some random story elementsLast 10% - the paranormal part and I cannot say that it made much sense to me beyond just creating an underly... moreing notion for the story I did not get this story, I did not like this story. For me, once again this was a rather lukewarm experience...
review 2: Holy crap. I should expect this kind of book from Calmes by now. The m/m genre is still pretty small, so sometimes it's hard to find new or different authors, and Calmes has a big name in the genre. How, I'm not sure. Like most of Calmes' books, there's a lot of insta-love, insta-bonding, an mc who doesn't know how 'omg, he's amazing' everyone else in the novel thinks he is, and a sudden turn into the weird. The book is going along at its pace, and all of a sudden, it turns into 'Supernatural'. Sigh. I guess with Calmes, it's best to sit back and enjoy the Mary Sue madness. It's all wish fulfillment. Don't we all wish we had a total hottie who wants nothing more than to give us tons of orgasms complete with utter devotion and monogamy, all the while we have to reject our desperate ex(s) who would give anything to have us back? Oh, and we're effortlessly amazing at our job with lots of appreciation and credit for all our amazingness? The problem is that insta-love leaves me cold. I want to watch the mc's fall in love and root for them as they develop. I can't do that with Calmes, and so instead of enjoying the guilty pleasure of a pure wish fulfillment story, I'm left unsatisfied. less
