review 1: An unusual twist to a love story where the characters have unique traits. The artist, Logan, who sees life through beauty, a Native American older woman who is an artist in her own right living much life in the wild, and a tomboy woman, Sally, who usually wants to act first and ask questions later. It is hard for Sally to understand how a man can really be a man without the skills of a cowboy, mountain-man or rancher and soft hands almost turn her away. She learns though when things get touch, her friend Logan has no problem protecting his own. An enjoyable read!
review 2: There is no doubt in my mind that Mary Connealy is a gifted, creative storyteller. I have enjoyed the plots of all of her books and her style is smooth and easy to follow. She knows how
... moreto bring the reader into the story and feel a connection to the characters. The idea of having a rough and tough cowgirl fall in love with an artsy painter makes for a fun, humorous and interesting plotline. The reason I only give this book three stars is because I am a bit irritated with the portrayal in a few of her books and especially this one of what it means to be a strong woman. The author’s attempt at making Sally and Mandy look strong and independent often crossed the line into making them look just plain bull-headed, insulting, arrogant and rude. Abby in Wildflower Bride was the same type of character and I didn’t like her character either. I lost count of how many times they called those around them idiots, morons or stupid both aloud and in their thoughts. Sally was rescued and nursed back to health by Logan and Wise Sister yet she continually treated Logan with disrespect and rudeness. At one point Sally says to Logan, “You live in the wilderness because you have the manners of a pig?” and I thought that applied more to her than anyone else. Logan saves her life and she constantly insults and degrades him. It was pretty unbelievable to me that he even fell in love with her! Mandy was even worse by continually saying she wanted to bash her husband’s head in and praying that God would protect him on the day she really explodes. Would the hero of a story be respected if he had the same thoughts about his wife? How about praying that you won’t explode at all and that God would help you love and respect your husband more. I have heard that the next book has a stronger male figure so I am continuing on to finish out the series hoping to see that Mandy has maintained her strong spirit but learned a few manners along the way! less
