review 1: I very much enjoyed this book about an Amish lay midwife who is arrested following the death of a mother giving birth. The mother was not her client and had not sought prenatal care, and had bled significantly before Abby was called for assistance. While I do not share the faith of the Amish, I very much enjoy reading even fictional reports of their culture and chosen lifestyle. I also have a strong interest in midwifery as both of my children were delivered by midwives even while I was employed as an allied health professional.
review 2: Very well written and difficult to put down! This book was very easy to relate to--from the harsh realities of English life and the many laws to being placed/pressured into difficult situations. There are many surprises along... more the way as well. The relationship that the inquisitive Catherine enters into is an emotional roller coaster with a very touching ending.I would definitely recommend this book to anyone interested in Amish fiction. less
