review 1: Never in a million years would I have thought Bel Canto Opera could be woven so well into a steampunkish alternate reality novel, with twists turns and double backs that would make a roller coaster green with envy. This was A-mazing. Bravo! Brava! Bravissimo! A plot you just have to read to believe, if I try any harder to describe it, it will only take away your thrill of discovery when you start working through it. That said, this is primarily a fantasy novel built around a premise that is exceptionally unique. The characterization is also top-notch, but Mary Gentle has always been a superb character-creator. Brava! less
